Abstract : The purpose of this communication is to give the prospective of wind energy over the Arabian Gulf. Various offshore developments have been taking place over the past years; one in particular is the research and development of wind energy. This has lead to an increased demand of reliable data for wind speed and its direction. In this paper, we study the behavior of wind speed and direction over the Arabian Gulf. The data used for the analysis covers the years 1960 to 2007, provided by the International Comprehensive Ocean-Atmosphere Data Set (ICOADS). Previous research over the Arabian Gulf shows that average wind speed for example in the month February is at 5.83 m/s. Whereas, this analysis shows that for the similar month the average has increased to 7.77 m/s with an improvement of 25%. Hence, this determines a significant improvement in the wind behavior over the Arabian Gulf.
