Abstract : A critical review of the environmental problems arising from the disposal of solid wastes, classification, and methods of treatment are given. Methods of treatment of domestic refuse in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and in the Gulf councils countries. Possible recovery of valuable materials from domestic refuse are discussed. Environmental problems arising from industrial solid wastes, possible economic recovery of materials, sources and methods of treatment of nuclear wastes are also discussed.
