Abstract : Due to its importance at the international level, and considering the rapid changes at the local level, this study aims to present and analyze the conceptual and practical aspects of the emerging relationships among parties of the production process in the era of globalization. The study starts by presenting two influential perspectives in analyzing and explaining the system of the present global economy: the World System Theory and the New International Division of Labor. While the first perspective argues that the capitalist world economy is divided into ‘rich core’ and ‘poor periphery’ regions according to economic factors built into unequal exchange, the second perspective argues that there is a new international division of labor which is based upon the type of technology used in production and reflects geographical factors and social variables. The study then presents an analysis of the interrelationships among the capitalists, laborers, and governments theoretically and in the real world in order to better understand the dynamic and structural aspects of these relationships. The study argues that with the help of the advanced and costly-effective telecommunication and transportation means, the owners of means of production are in a better position in terms of power and influence in there relationships with laborers and governments. Nevertheless, the study takes an optimistic view of more just and fair future relationships between the three parties. The study ends up with a discussion of the concept of power in the writings of several sociologists and applies that to the existing international economy and illuminates what could be direct and indirect sources of power in production relationships.
