Abstract : main objective of this study is to investigate the financial risk in payment and settlement systems in electronic trade. Over the past two decades, the phenomenal growth of financial markets and trade activities had led to tremendous growth in large-value payment systems. Large-value payment systems are the electronic payment systems banks use to transfer large payments among themselves. The tremendous growth of electronic trade and payment systems has increased both the possibility of settlement failures and potential impact of such failures. This study includes three sections; first one concerns with the concepts of electronic trade and, development of Payment and Settlement Systems among the banks, the second section treatments the kinds of the financial risk faced the banking system, and the third section discussion the management of the financial risk in the electronic trade, finally, the results and recommendations of the study.
