Abstract : The acceptance of the bill of exchange by the drawee constitutes a confirmation of the beneficiaries right over the value of the bill. It does not only put the acceptor (drawee) under an obligation to pay but can also be considered as an evidence that the acceptor (drawee) has received the value of the bill from the drawer. Due to the lack of understanding of this point and the vague understanding of the role of the bill of exchange in general, local merchants tend wrongly to use cheques as a replacement of bill of exchange.
