Abstract : This study aims at highlighting the main characteristics of the boundary disputes that have broken Out within the framework of the bilateral relations of the six member states of the GCC. Special reference has been made to the two cases of the Qatar-Bahraini and Qatar-Saudi Arabian boundary disputes. The study is divided into three parts: The First deals with the general features of boundaries and boundary disputes in the GCC region. We have concluded that these boundary and the disputes linked to them are characterized by being: recently established, undermarcated, suffering of data shortage in national resources. The second part of the study deals with the Qatar-Babraini dispute concerning the common maritime boundary line. We have discussed the beginnings of this dispute and its further developments, particularly since 1982. The GCC mediatory role has also been dealt with. Although this role did not succeed in reaching a peaceful settlement of the dispute, it could help the two disputant parties' recourse to the International Court of Justice. The third part is confined to deal with the Qatar-Saudi Arabian boundary dispute that has officially broken Out in 1992. Regarding this dispute, we have also paid much attention to the mediatory role played in the attempt of settling it peacefully, both by the GCC and the Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak. The sum up, settling boundary and territorial disputes peacefully represents one of the most important factors that could enhance peace and stability in the Gulf area, particularly in the inter-state relations of the GCC members.
