Common Challenges Faced during Tutoring in PBL

Subject : التعليم الطبي
Document Language : English
Abstract : Problem-based learning (PBL) is a method of instruction that uses problems as a context for students to acquire problem-solving skills and basic knowledge. PBL curriculum was introduced at McMaster University more than three decades ago. Not many schools have adopted the system despite its distinct advantages. Several studies have highlighted strategies and training techniques used in preparing PBL tutors. The studies Albanese and Mitchell (1993) reviewed reveal that there are many factors to consider, such as time commitments of faculty and students, requirements of support perssonnel, the need for rooms for multiple small group meetings and multiple copies of library materials to support small group investigations. There are a number of challenges raised by most PBL tutors. This presentation aims to point to some of the major challenges PBL preseents for tutors, librarians, and institutions.
