Abstract |

This study was undertaken as part of a comprehensive work which had the
following major objectives:
I - To determine the daily profile of some selected parameters of environmental
interest in the sewage effluent which include:
a. pH,
b. Suspended particulate matter,
c. Extractable organic matter,
d. Particulate organic carbon,
e. Petroleum hydrocarbons
f. Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons,
g. Cholesterol & coprostanol
h. Nitrogen species (nitrate, nitrite, ammonium nitrogen),
i. Phosphorus species (reactive phophate, total dissolved P and total P)
j. l:he elements AI, Fe, Mn, Cu, Zn, Cr, V, Pb, Cd,
11- To calculate the global flux to the coastal area
111- To trace the dispersion of the effluent using the human sterols
IV- To study the behaviour of nutrients and trace elements in the mixing area
YAV
"1\1v- To study the possible consequences (impact) of the effluent discharge on the
coastal area. |
