Abstract : This study aims at analyzing the practice of organizational planning in a sample of (88) Jordanian institutions in both public and private sectors. The basic purpose of the study is to identify significant problems in this area and ways of facing them so as to improve organizational planning in Jordanian institutions. Among major findings of this study are: 1) Despite wide disagreement among respondents with regards to the concept of organizational planning, vast majority of Jordanian institutions practice one form or another of organizational planning. 2) Methods of organizational planning vary among Jordanian institutions in both sectors. 3) Private institutions have more elements of effective organizational planning than public institutions in Jordan. The study recommended the adoption of a well-defined policy for organizational planning in Jordanian institutions. It also recommended to create the appropriate climate for effective organizational planning including the avail ability of human and financial and other requirements in this regard.
