Abstract
:
This study concentrated on the assessment, evaluating, and analyzing of metadata on the electronic sites of the arab national news agencies . The main objective of the study is to reveal the reality of the metadata of those sites, and their responsiveness and commitment to the international standards for metadata, through using the "Metachecker." It also aims to explore the views of specialized faculty members in the field of Libraries and Increation in the Arab countries of the term “Metadata.” The study is to achieve these goals through a survey and content analysis. The study also exposes the lack of concern of the metadata generator sites to provide the keyword tag and the descriptive tag despite their importance in these sites to retrieve increation through search engines. In addition to the lack of attention to the quality of metadata on the sites of the national Arab agencies, there were some wrong practices in the creation of metadata tags. The study has also revealed the absence of tags in the form of Dublin Core in the the arab national news agencies in sites. The study has revealed that 43.75% of the faculty members believed that the term "metadata" is the Arabic term more appropriate for the translation of Metadata. Therefore, this study presents a number of recommendations as follows: the creation of the metadata should follow the international standards to ensure the quality.
